fifteen minutes from the Running Bear. It has a world class sporting clays course and trap shooting all open to the public.
HUNTING SEASONS
Black Bear: The Running Bear has been a place for bear hunters since the 1950s. We are in a great location the Resort is in the Bergland Management Unit and the Amasa unit is across the road. Ruffed Grouse; Hunting is excellent in the area surrounding the resort. Season Dates (all zones): Sept. 15-Nov. 14, Dec. 1-Jan 1 Woodcock: Sept. 19 - Nov. 1 Whitetail Deer Seasons: Archery Season: Oct. 1- Nov. 14 December 1-January 1 Regular Firearm Season: November 15-30 Muzzle-loading Season: Zone 1 (UP): 10 days starting 1st Friday in December Canada Goose: Sept. 22 - Nov. 5 Ducks & Mergansers: Oct. 4 - Dec. 2 Rabbits Statewide: Sept. 15 - March 31 Trapping - check digest for dates DNR Hunting Digest
NATIONAL FOREST HUNTING
Hunting is a major recreational activity on the Ottawa National Forest that surrounds Running Bear Resort. Hunting is allowed on National Forest lands with appropriate state hunting licenses. Seasons and bag limits are determined by the Michigan DNR
RUFFED GROUSE HUNTING
The Ottawa National Forest surrounding the resort offers the perfect habitat for grouse and woodcock making our area a grouse hunting destination Ruffed Grouse usually occupy mixed deciduous and coniferous forest interiors with scattered clearings. They also live along forested streams and in areas growing back from burning or logging. There are several G.E.M. areas within 15 miles of the resort too We are more that happy to direct you to hunting areas.
