SKI OR SNOWSHOE

Running Bear Resort located in the center of the Western Upper Peninsula of Michigan and the Ottawa National Forest giving you wonderful opportunities to cross country ski or snowshoe. Our area is home to some of the most scenic cross country ski trails in the Midwest and many of those trails are very close to the Running Bear Resort. Anywhere from 10 to 40 minutes from the resort you can be on the trails!

SKI & SHOE TRAILS

During your stay you will be able to enjoy our back 10 acre forest trails, a private groomed and signed trail system 15 miles away or the groomed Sylvania Wilderness Area trails.

PORCUPINE MOUNTAINS

Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park Just a 45 minute drive from Running Bear Resort Explore more than 87 miles of designated cross-country ski and snowshoe trails. Enjoy sweeping hilltop vistas of Lake Superior. Glide quietly through glades of thick hemlocks. See waterfalls transformed by the cold of winter. Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park is located on the south shore of Lake Superior near Silver City in Ontonagon County.

LANTERN-LIT XC SKIING AND SNOWSHOEING

January and February the Porcupine Mountains light up the XC Ski Trails with nearly 80 old-fashioned kerosene lanterns to illuminate a 1-mile trail for a unique and memorable experience. The ski trail is track-set for classic skiers, while snowshoers make their own trail adjacent to the lighted loop. Stop halfway around the loop at the warming shelter and join the park naturalist for a campfire and refreshments. The ski trail is rated "easy"; however, skiing and snowshoeing at night is always challenging. The trail is located off M-107 across from the downhill ski area. LAND O' LAKES XC SKI TRAILS

16 Miles from Running Bear Resort The Trail is maintained by the Land O' Lakes Fish and Game Club From Hwy. 45 & County B go West on Co. Rd.. B to East Duck Lake Road and turn North. Go past North Moon Lake Road to parking area onthe East side of the road.
